Introducing the new AssemblyAI Developer Hub: Everything in one place

Why we built it

We built our new Developer Hub to enhance the developer experience—something that has been a critical component of AssemblyAI since day one. Our goal was to create a comprehensive repository of all our resources—from cookbooks to SDKs to code examples—to accelerate development with our API and make building Speech AI applications easier for everyone.

This initiative also created an opportunity for us to better understand how developers use our resources, identify which examples are most valuable, and continuously improve our documentation based on real usage patterns. By bringing everything together, we're not just organizing content—we're building a foundation for better developer support.

One unified home for all developer resources

The new Developer Hub consolidates everything into a single, searchable platform. Now, everything developers need is in one place, instantly accessible through our search bar powered by kapa.ai.

We've completely refactored our code examples too. Every example now works end-to-end, meaning you can copy and paste directly from our Quickstart sections and start building immediately—no assembly required.

This approach has also improved our kapa.ai agent performance. With complete code snippets properly documented and included in our training material, our AI assistant can provide more accurate and helpful responses.

This approach aligns perfectly with what developers are telling us about AI tools. According to recent Stack Overflow research, 66% of developers cite "distrust of output" as their top concern with AI tools. By having our kapa.ai bot reference specific documentation with complete code examples, we're directly addressing this trust gap—when developers can verify information against our official docs, they can implement solutions with much greater confidence.

The results speak for themselves: since launching the Developer Hub in February, we've seen weekly visitors increase by nearly 40%, with the number of questions asked to our kapa.ai bot doubling and our uncertainty reduced by 66%.

Building a feedback loop

Documentation isn't a one-and-done project—it's a living system that should constantly improve. We've added feedback forms to every page of our docs where you can tell us exactly what's helpful and what isn't.

Internally, we're collecting feedback from across our company—Sales, Solutions, Engineering, and more—to ensure our documentation addresses real-world use cases and pain points. 

We also monitor upvoted/downvoted answers on kapa.ai and track common support tickets to identify gaps in our documentation.

Rapid iteration with Fern

When we planned this revamp, we knew we needed a documentation partner we could trust to handle the infrastructure so our team could focus on writing great content. 

Having already worked with Fern on our API Reference, they were the natural choice for generating the rest of our documentation. Their platform has been instrumental in optimizing performance and enabling our team to quickly implement feedback.

The results speak for themselves: beautiful docs that match our website's style, snappy performance, and a consistent design language across all our resources. But perhaps the most valuable aspect is how easy it is to use—every member of our team can ship documentation changes weekly without having any specialized knowledge. 

With Fern handling the infrastructure, we've dramatically accelerated our ability to implement improvements and push them to production.
